Around Xmas time last year, I tried a few alcoholic concoctions.
This VIN D’ORANGE was one of them along with the limoncello and a spiced pomegranate gin. The recipe is from Delicious magazine.
You need to start the recipe 2 weeks in advance.
2 × 750ml bottles dry white wine
1 cup (250ml) vodka
4 oranges (unpeeled), chopped
1 cinnamon quill
1 cup (220g) caster sugar
2 vanilla beans, split, seeds scraped
chilled soda water, to serve
Method:
- Place wine, vodka, orange, cinnamon, sugar and vanilla pods and seeds in a bowl, stirring to dissolve the sugar. Divide among sterilised glass bottles, then seal.
- Keep in a cool dark place for at least 2 weeks or up to a month.
- To serve, strain the vin d’orange into glasses filled with ice, then top with chilled soda water.
- Drink!
I only made half the recipe. I used a big glass jar to make it and left it in my cupboard for a month before straining and putting it into bottles.
It’s also nice to drink on ice on its own (for aperitif).
